Job Opportunity: Insect Biodiversity Data Manager

The UF Forest Entomology Lab is looking for an Insect Diversity Data Manager. The ideal applicant will have experience with relational and other databases, biodiversity data standards, and the science of taxonomy and systematics.

The goal of this project is to transform an existing large database of beetle systematics, images, and biogeography, into an online resource for the global systematics community and government agencies. Methods are likely to include the development of Darwin Core archives, working with the Symbiota platform, and optimization of the user interface and user experience.

We are expecting to hire at the postdoc level or similar; but more important than rank is the applicant’s experience, communication skills, and orientation towards the user.

Besides working with our team, the University of Florida offers endless opportunities for growth and training for aspiring biodiversity data scientists, including the most advanced phylogenetics and data science teams and the largest computing power in the Southeastern U.S.
